CHARTER Alliance Webinar | Cultural heritage education and training: What are the curricula and occupations that will shape the future of the sector?

The CHARTER Alliance has dedicated the past three years (2021-2023) to analysing education and training (E&T) paths for cultural heritage (CH) professions in Europe. Our goal was to identify what makes heritage E&T innovative and emerging, and to provide an outlook on those segments (“pathways”) of heritage E&T which promise the greatest future potential.

To this end, the CHARTER Alliance has accomplished several key results to set the stage for presenting you with guidelines for innovative and emerging occupations and curricula. We have investigated how formal and non-formal education are delivered, created a database of existing cultural heritage E&T institutions and programs linking them to qualifications and professions, explored quality standards and certification schemes, identified gaps and needs in existing education and training programs, and developed a collection of literature on cultural heritage E&T.

All these results provide us with a deep understanding of the current state of heritage E&T, which is crucial for identifying opportunities with high future potential. These opportunities address current gaps and needs that are expected to become even more significant in the coming years. By learning from previous CHARTER research and engaging with heritage professionals at various conferences and workshops, we have identified eight key pathways for E&T opportunities with high future potential.

These eight pathways are extremely important for the cultural heritage sector as a whole, aiming to serve as a practical framework for smooth integration into regional and national education systems. In the format of guidelines, they provide support to E&T providers, assistance to heritage organizations and employers for in-house training, guidance to prospective students, insights for policymakers concerned with legislating relevant laws and regulations and focus for researchers on the heritage sector.

By joining our final CHARTER webinar, you will have the opportunity to further understand the distinctive features of current heritage E&T, what makes heritage E&T innovative and emerging, and which segments of heritage E&T should be further developed and how to do so. Gain practical insights and information on cultural heritage crafts and knowledge, community engagement, international cultural heritage relations, cultural heritage in the digital environment, and more!

Participation is free of charge, but registration is mandatory.
